Are they not called barges? I have no idea. Kate & Holly wanted to go on one NOW, but we've booked a week at Haven this year & can't afford something else. Any recommendations of canals?

Grand Union/Oxford is my bestest but your nearest is Leeds & Liverpool via Aire & Calder, over the Pennines.

My folks and I went on a canal boat ;o) holiday years ago, and I still remember it now as one of my favourites. It's hard work if you're one of the people who has to get out and do the 'locks', but it's worth it.
