Were those traits attached to the good in the hero and the evil in the villain? Or were they just human traits attached to two fallible, imperfect humans, one of whom was the hero and the other the villain?

In other words, were these traits you don't believe are good and evil portrayed as good and evil traits, per se?

I don't recall any explicit statement of those parts of their characters as good or evil, but I definitely felt the implication.
