Green Stuff. This is the modelling putty that we use for filling ingaps on the models and making and converting pieces to make them look interesting. It comes in two parts, and needs to be mixed together to the right shade of "green

Have you considered WAB? Warhammer Ancient Battles? They don't actually have any model range for them, but they recommend a different model range with is at a slightly larger scale. I've not really looked into it myself, though...
No, I haven't tried plastic putty, but as I am working on plastic at the moment, I don't think that I would be any better off if it sticks too well!
