Is the high-calf one black or brown? I like the brown color better, but the design for the high-calf is AWESOME.

Well the reason I am going for black is that that is easier to combine with various costume ideas

I find the short one a *lot* more attractive.

Personally, I find the shorter boots both more attractive and more likely to be worn by BOTH a steampunk character and an evil sorceress. I just think the lace looks weird, and somehow it seems impractical for a steampunk character to have lace on her boots.

I'm going to say the shorter ones. The lace does indeed look odd, at least to my mind.
