Surprise comment! Sorry, I've been rather LJ absent for a while.

Anyway, the first book group I was in ended up being the typical 5 minutes of book talk book group. It was okay since it was all people who were friends and we had fun but it wasn't a great book group. I love the one I'm in now, though. We have been following a great theme - read a classic and then read a contemporary companion (Alice in Wonderland and Alice I Have Been, Jane Eyre and Jane Slayre) so it's good for lots of commentary and discussion.

Hi there!

That sounds like a really interesting book group - how did you all end up finding each other?

Yikes. JUST saw that you responded!

I used to work at Barnes with the person who started the group so she invited me in. Most of the others are horse friends of hers.

Hey Rachel,

I read the Eagan book as well and I kind of felt the same way....what was the point. It received so much gushing and fanfare that I suppose I was bound to be let down a little. I liked the book, but can't say that I thought about it much after I read it. I've since moved on the Ann Patchet's State of Wonder, another book receiving alot of praise.

Darlisha, I'm so glad there are others out there who kind of didn't see what all the fuss was about :-) I just moved on to the new Lionel Shriver book - "So much for that." Her books are TOUGH to get through - a punch in the gut, if you will.

Read Rebecca on your suggestion - enjoyed it! A nice classic, that one.
