Oh no!! That's awful! I'm so sorry to hear that Tokyo Pop is backing out. It's rough times, for everyone, right now.

Thanks for the heads up, and let me know should you need me to start a campaign to keep this thing published!!!

cheers.

It really is-- the year of the rat is all about "change"- a little more positive change would be nice about now. Thanx for the support Lex! I'm not sure how a campaign could be helpful at this point- I'm pretty sure the majority of TokyoPop's real print publishing is dead. Every editor Tavicat ever dealt w/ at TP was fired back in June. The only books still seeing print that I know of are: Bizenghast, Re-Play, I luv Halloween , Princess Ai, Dramacon, and Van Von Hunter-maybe a couple more? If you could let others interested know what's happening that would be great. However, I'm certain ShutterBox was dropped from printing because they especially don't like promoting IP they don't own. Over the years, I've noticed (as well as others) that the series was getting more and more buried, and TP has already cherried picked the series they look to build franchises on. ShutterBox could never be a part of the TP franchise since they don't own it, so they really don't know what to do w/ it ( ... )

That really sucks. You were my heroes for getting to continue your series despite all the crummy stuff happening. Best wishes that book 5 and 6 get out there one way or another.
Keep rockin' the comics!!

Hey thanx! The lame thing was TP tried to make like the series was ok at first and told Tavicat to keep on working on it as planned-etc. But then my clients pressed on more questions to them and a week later the new editor, Lillian, finally broke down and told them via email that ShutterBox vol 5 and 6 wasn't going to see print and that it would be moved to their online webcomics devision (which far as I can tell-doesn't even exist yet). So, by the terms of their contract, it was indeed canceled.
I really appreciate the support of fellow artists like you out there. So, out of curiosity, is your series canceled? Or is it being moved to their online publishing?
Best of luck to you!

Last I heard, Psy-Comm is still moving to webcomics (we missed shipping our book for sure by about a month, it was all done except a few toned pages and lettering -- GRR). I wrote today and asked what to tell people about when it will be out on the web because I had a lot of people ask at a recent con.
I'm still pushing Psy-Comm in other media because I really believe in the book, but it's rough when you can't tell what is going on. I wish we could have at least printed enough for pre-orders.
Thanks to you too! That is cool that you have the rights to SB. Rock on! I'm sure that Tavicat will prevail. I just wish that the whole thing wasn't so sour for so many creators. At least my former editor there (Bryce)is still gainfully employed he is super awesome. It's tough when you seen so much potential get lost in the weirdness.
Anway, Go TAVICAT STUDIOS!

NNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! First My Cat loki won't get a book 3, then Off*Beat won't get a book 3 and now no Shutterbox book 5 and 6. Tokyopop has officially screwed up.

Trust me- I don't get what they're doing. I gave up long ago. I do thank you for your support and for your support for all the other artists (and their muses) out there!

It really sucks b/c Off*Beat and My Cat Loki can't be published by another company. I'm just glad I have all the Shutterbox books and other series i liked. I hope Bettina and Jen end up continuing with new comics someplace else. They have really good muses.
