How to go from THIS to 
This tutorial was based on an icon submitted to an icontest by the talented senbonzakura77
Open new file
Open texture 1
set layer to lighten
Open your chosen image
Go to image >> transform >> scale
Press and hold the shift key >> hover your mouse over one of the corners and drag the image down and in reducing its size.
(Holding shift makes sure the picture dosn't end up looking squished or elongated)
Select the sharpen tool >> brush size 194 >> strength 26 >> Sharpen the image 3 times
Go to image >> adjustment >> desaturate
Go to image >> adjustment >> brightness/contrast
set brightness to +15
set contrast to +20
(You will need to adjust this according to how light or dark your origional image was like)
Open texture 2
Set layer to colour dodge >> move it arround till it dosn't obscure the picture
Open texture 3
Set layer to screen
Go to text >> Times new roman >> size 2 >>Write "WALKING HOME"
Set the layer opacity to %67
Open texture 3 (or create your own tiny text) >> set layer to multiply
Create a new layer >> fill with white
Go to image >> stroke >>width 1 px >> colour black >> Location - inside
Set layer to darken
FINISHED
