There are actually several hints that Maverick has been messing around with Barnaby's memories far more than just 4 times. For one, the latest PASH! magazine says that "Barnaby's memory has been edited quite extensively; even the memories of his family are affected, though the sense of warmth there is real." Oh, I'm aware its entirely improbable its only been altered 4 times- I'm trying to catelogue specific times it was edited that we saw for sure during the series.
Thank you for pointing out the contradiction of the background of those two scenes when Maverick told hi, he isn't alone; do you know what episode those are? I believe the one at the mansion is in episode 3, I don't recall which episode the next shot is in.
Wow I really didn't notice the episode 7 memory alteration. Good catch.
It's possible Maverick may have edited Barnaby's memories to make him feel closer to his "father figure" and more distant to others, to build trust within Barnaby so he wouldn't question him and hold up the implanted memories even tighter. But its very possible that he had to memory edited Barnaby more then four times, like a similar situation of episodes 18~19 happening earlier in his life..
As for the ring, this isn't much but i hope it helps ^^
"It seems likely that he just means Barnaby has never gone into a rage before and disappeared."
I suppose what I meant was, no major memory alteration, because that seems to require Bunny disappearing; although obviously the alteration in episode 7 was not as major as in Episodes 19 and 20, the case still seem to be that it requires Bunny being out of the picture and uncontactable for quite some time. Lloyd's comments suggest Barnaby has never disappeared for an irregular amount of time before.
As for the original figure, yes I agree it looks the most like Maverick, particularly as far as the clothes and posture go; the hair does look suspiciously like Jake's, but that may have been to suggest consistency and the change that occurred in episode 7 less immediately obvious. And I do agree about Maverick's actions in the last few episodes; maybe he's just getting too old for this!
