Lots of people are doing it but it originated with
snickfic . It sounds like lots of fun and I've already gotten to read a great Buffy/Firefly crossover and see an Andromeda vid and a fantastic Jo/Ruby postapocalyptic coffee shop AU and early SPN fic and art posts by a few of my flisties and a knitting post and it's all been wonderful so far. So, I thought I'd play too.
I think that many of us like talking about our and linking to our work but are embarrassed to do so without excuse, so I am making us an excuse. Behold, the Seven Days of Self-Promotion Meme, inspired by another recent meme but with more categories, all obviously customizable as you see fit. Notice that the categories are very broad, so you can talk about your art or vids or meta or whatever if you don't write fic.
The Days:
1. Something old
2. Something new
3. Something you made for someone else
4. Something you made just for yourself
5. Something for a major fandom/pairing/character
6. Something for a minor fandom/pairing/character
7. Something you're just really proud of
And then other people can read your discussion and follow your links to your fanworks (and maybe comment on them?) and you can read their discussion and follow their links and comment on them, and it will all be lovely.
I've thought about the something old and just how many fics I managed during my first year writing (I wish the muse was still with me that way now) and decided that there's no way I could pick one out for this meme. So I'll just go with my first fanfic (or really any kind of fic) ever.
Sam's Time of the Month : written for this prompt on the kink meme- Madison changed Sam, and now he's able to dominate Dean the way he's always wanted to. Now I hadn't ever written before but I'd read a LOT of SPN stories before I took the writing plunge and dark Sam and hurt Dean had caught my imagination and wouldn't let go. When I saw the prompt I couldn't resist giving it a try.
LOL, back at the time I'd just gotten a journal and had no clue how to link so the story was originally posted in about forty comment boxes. Well, it was originally posted in far fewer than that but people were actually reading it(it was the kink meme after all) and leaving comments and (I know now that this is really common) wanted more. So, I had left it in a spot that really could be continued so I wrote a little more and then a little more until it was an actual finished story. And while it wasn't high art it was far from the worst story I'd seen. And once I figured out how to put it on my journal it got more comments and I just went on from there. I still haven't lost my love of evil!Sam/Dean and I don't think I ever will.
