Before this musical, most Americans vaguely knew that Hamilton was the guy on the 10 dollar bill and that there was a milk commercial about who shot him in a duel. I think one of the reasons for the incredible success was that it's not history that everyone knows, it's the story of the people, and the people override the history.

I don't know whether it's something about still being in the fandom world, though inactive, and having that hive-kinda mind, but Hamilton has spread like a virus through it ;) I discovered Hamilton through my old West Wing friends.
