I think this is my first outright Tony/Ziva story. I'm pretty sure it's my first wholly NCIS story. So it's nice to hear from people.

Oh, this definitely exudes tenderness. The way Tony is just so gentle and all the while bewildering to Ziva (the "why, why, why?!" of it all) was so very real. The realization Ziva has at the end was wonderful too because with her childhood and life before NCIS, it's doubtful she would think that of herself, sadly.

It's true that Ziva hasn't really been 'cherished' by those closest to her: possibly one of the reasons she and Gibbs do so well together - he has the rough affection that she can accept, while still being more focused on her as a person than her as an agent, which her father seems to be.

And I think that Tony would know that at some level and want to treat her like cotton wool...and then alternate by wanting to just eat her up.
