Snowflake Day 9: Fandom Wrap

Challenge #9

In your own space, list your Fandom Wrap categories. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

What are your top five fandoms for 2021 based on the amount of time you interacted with them?

By 'intereacted' I'm going with 'spent the most time in their canon and interacting with fellow fans'. Which, actually, flips a whole bunch of fandoms around.

1. Nalini Singh's Hunter's Guild series. I re-read the entire series through, from Angel's Blood through to Archangel's Light. I think the last one I'd read was Prophecy which is the one right before the war against Lijuan, so I did some catching up while Sydney was in lockdown.
2. Bridgerton. I'm really looking forward to Season 2: Anthony and Kate's book is my favourite in the series.
3. Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling series: mostly for the purposes of writing The Gathering Clouds and to get a better grip on the story options.
4. The Hobbit movie trilogy: my sister got into it and I watched from the sidelines.

I'm not sure I have more than four. I didn't spend much time in any canon this year, largely because I was busy working, where the fandoms I used to be into were growing was not where I wanted them to go, and my favourites were perennially forgotten, dismissed, or abandoned.

When I'm writing fic, I don't necessarily go back and review canon if I don't have to: I read summaries and fan reactions a little, but I also don't interact. A few people suggested fic after my sister got into the Hobbit (and I watched because I was at least a little curious how it went), but I haven't gotten around to reading it yet.

What are your top five fandom spaces in terms of time spent? (AO3, Twitter, Tumblr, Reddit, Dreamwidth, and others)
1. Dreamwidth: This is probably my primary platform for fandom, and even then it's very small. I'm not active in any fandoms - uninspired by their canon, unenthused by what enthuses other fans. So mostly I post about my life, the world around me, and the things I'm doing. It's personal journalling rather than fandom interaction, but the bits of fandom are there.
2. AO3: some reading, some writing, some skimming and dismissing in disgust.
3. Tumblr: This might just be because I finally got back into Tumblr in December. I don't think I've done Tumblr for a couple of years now. Just couldn't keep up, didn't want to, and the things I wanted to post about weren't things that anyone else was posting about. So I didn't.
4. YouTube: I don't know that I'd consider YT a fannish space. I guess I watched Bridgerton-adjacent stuff, and Hamilton-adjacent stuff, so far as fandom goes. Otherwise, a lot of gardening, Beau of the Fifth Column, Liziqi, and listening to epic music playlists?

What are the top five ways you interacted in these fandoms? (Reading fanfic, writing, commenting, watching videos, chatting with friends, making art, or anything else you can think of).
1. Writing fanfic.
2. Absorbing canon.

What are the top five things you did to contribute to fandom in terms of time? Did you write? Comment? Send positive energy into the universe? Create art?
1. Wrote fanfic.
2. Commented on the pieces that were gifted to me, or which I liked.

What things did you create that took the most time?
1. Dark Knight: Dominion - Justice League (various), Diana (Wonder Woman), Bruce Wayne (Batman): This snippet has been in motion since, oh 2005, or thereabouts, so I guess it's been the longest-running thing that I created this year.
2. A Distinct Lack Of Quiet - Firefly, MCU, Zoe Washburne, Maria Hill, Crossover: Another one that was only finally finished up this year after the original idea was sketched out around 2006.
3. The Gathering Clouds: probably wins in terms of hours spent, since I've been writing it since 2012. Currently at 32K and still has quite a bit to go...
4. The End Of The World As We Know It - Pacific Rim, Original Character, Chuck Hansen, pre-Scissure: This one has been lingering around for at least four years, possibly more.
5. my finest day is yet unknown - MCU, Steve Rogers, Thor, assorted cameos, Maria Hill, Hockey AU: Again, I've had notes on this thing for at least three to four years now. Finally got around to writing it.

I actually wanted to say "if time is all I have - MCU, Maria Hill, Steve Rogers, AU - Another Character Is The Winter Soldier" because it feels like I took months to write it, but in fact, I wrote that in two days after I decided my original fill for my AU Exchange assignment wasn't going to cut the mustard. The original fill was like pulling bloody teeth, but once I had the framework of if time.. in place, it just wrote through.

Have a Top 5 List you'd like to share?? By all means!
Top Five Things To Finish in 2022
1. The Gathering Clouds fic (MCU)
2. Meeting Halfway series (MCU)
3. Watch The Queen Conquer series (Pacific Rim)
4. That 24 24 days fic
5. The Danae-Talon fic that someone asked for YT a couple of years back.

Will I finish them all? Ha! Not likely, But at least having a list means I have a goal to work towards!
