"Hey," he greeted his partner. "I'm bored outta my mind. You want to go hunt or something? Or we could just play cards." He held up the deck, grinning, fully expecting Shito to tell him to go to hell for that suggestion.

And he was somewhat curious about card games. He hadn't played many of those.
"I don't feel like hunting," he said. "What kind of game do you want to play?"

That made him nervous. Really, really nervous.
"Hey, uh, you feeling okay?" he asked, totally bewildered. Had Shito ever smiled at him? Other than when he was pretending to be the nice guy at school?

But he needed to get things back on track. They were talking about card games, not about Shito, and he wanted to keep it that way. "Today's a good day, don't you think? Anyway, let's play. Can we sit on the bed or something, or should we go down to the cafeteria so we can have a table?"
