Event, Part One: Taking the Elemental Shrines

Jul 29, 2010 16:31

Due to the unique nature of these events, we're handling the formal announcements for these events differently than we have past ones. As you know, the Shrines event kicks off August 1st, and we'll be starting the Terra event at the same time. Rather than wait until the events go live to give you the low down on what's happening, we're going to give them to you here and now, so everyone can start planning and plotting with their groups. In addition to giving you a little advanced warning what's to come, it will keep all the ooc information in one location that's easy to find, as the events will be launched as logs for tagging in the logs community. Don't worry if you forget where the information is, we'll provide you links to this post for easy reference.

Taking the Elemental Shrines

This event is the cornerstone for everything that follows on Terra. Without the defeat of the elemental guardians and the placement of the mirrors, the portal to Terra cannot be opened. In many ways, everything depends on these four teams!

The Particulars:

- Lindblum is the point of departure. Regent Cid has graciously provided air transportation to every volunteer. Once everyone has arrived, the teams will depart in four of the Regency's finest airships, manned by some of the most respected and trusted Lindblum Knights.

- Before you leave, a Moogle will be waiting outside your airship to take your name and particulars (save info!), in case you don't make it out alive. Someone will need to notify your next of kin and snag your inheritance! Aren't they charming?

- Logs will begin with the arrival and drop off of the teams at the site of the shrine, or as near to it as the particular shrine will allow. The heat from the Fire Shrine will overload the engines if the airship flies too close. The sheer power of the Wind Shrine will disrupt the flight capabilities. The incessant ground shaking from the Earth Shrine will make a close landing impossible. Each log will address each of these matters individually.

- Each team has two objectives to meet. The first is to defeat the Elemental Guardian lurking within. Only after it has been defeated, can the second objective be met, which is to place the appropriate mirror that unlocks the portal seal. The Guardian can and will attempt to remove any intruders, as part of its function is to guard the seal. The mirrors cannot be placed until it's been eliminated.

- Once the team has succeeded, they will be transported back to Lindblum for a celebratory dinner, a posh place to rest, and awarding of accolades. Among those rewards will be a generous living stipend.

Information about the Guardians  may be found at these links:
Kraken (water)
Lich (earth)
Maliris (fire)
Tiamat (wind)

Things to Note:

- As announced in Regent Cid's post, the shrines must be taken simultaneously. While it may take a week or possibly more to actually conclude these logs, for an in-character frame of reference, the task must be concluded in a few hours at the very most. Conquer the location however you deem necessary. However, due to the urgency of the task, we ask that the strategies not involve fight, rest for a day, try again, rest, etc.

- The shrines themselves are exceptionally hazardous before you even encounter the Guardian. Each one is armed with traps which include closing walls, rising floors and huge chunks of the matching element being lobbed from every direction, be it water or rock. The Fire Shrine comes with added dangers as it's located inside a volcano, so hot magma is all around, in addition to flaming chunks of igneous rock being thrown. The Wind Shrine can push people out from the sheer power of its winds which exceeds even an high speed tornado. Heavy armor is encouraged, both as a stabilizer and protection against being slashed to shreds.

- Because the Terra event will be launched at the same time as the Shrines, we are assuming that each team succeeds in their task. You're free to kill off or drastically injure whomever you like, as long as someone can and does complete the tasks given and the mirrors are placed. Please don't wipe out the whole party. (Yes Kain, we're looking at you. Save the emo for later.)

- As the logs will be started right at the site of the Shrine, there will be no time to discuss strategies. For anyone lucky enough to have a support mage in their party, a quick round of buffs would be nice, but it's vital that the group gets inside and gets to work. We will not be posting an official meet and greet to mingle and chat before the events go live. You're welcome to do so yourself if you wish, or you can attempt to contact your team members and strategize via MoogleNET before leaving.

- Out of consideration for your team, please remember to track the post that you're involved in. It will keep you up to date when the others have tagged in.

- We're providing you with subthreads below for Questions and for OOC Plotting. Have fun!
