Gibbs is a very good patient. He breathes deeply when told to, drinks lots of liquids, doesn't try to remove his IV drip, and only complains about the pain when his nose is reset ( Read more... )

Rat ducks in the doorway sometime in the afternoon, slightly cleaned up and no longer smelling of booze. He still needs a shave but that's pretty normal in his case. He's trying to move quietly, in case Gibbs is asleep, but keep up a friendly expression in case he isn't. This is no time to tell him about Willie if he doesn't have to.

Gibbs looks a little strange with his broken nose, and he's thoroughly mussed and bruised all over. He opens his eyes when Rat comes in, though, and smiles weakly.

((Ack I'm late sorry!))

Rat is no stranger to a broken nose, nor to having one big enough to be a nice target. "Hi. How're you holding up?"

"Nngh. Face hurts. Otherwise okay." His voice is hoarse and soft, but at least he can talk now.

Mel arrives, although she really hasn't left much. Sometimes she'll snooze in the chair, or read, or listen to music. If Gibbs wanted, she'd let him listen to her iPod On Steroids.

If he's asleep, she doesn't make a sound. If he's not, she'll give him some chocolate she smuggled in with her.

Mel's looking kinda pensive when she enters the room.

((Whether or not this is after or during or before Rat's visit is totally up to you.))

Gibbs sometimes wakes up when she's dozing, and he watches her sleep a few minutes. It makes him feel peaceful. He has a feeling he should be more concerned about what's going on in the City, about helping to catch Ume, but he's told John all he can, and now he sort of feels as though he's done his part.

He likes having Melinda there so much, although he worries about her health. Surely she should be sleeping in a bed on the island?

When she comes in, he clears his throat and stirs a little. "...hey. You okay, sweetheart?"

Mel smiles a little at Gibbs. "Hey. Yeah, I think so. I'm just... worried. Oh, hey, I got you something." Mel sneaks a box out of her jacket pocket, and hands it to him. It smells like chocolate.

"You were in my dreams." He perks up at the box, although he can't smell very well right now. "...what's in there? Is it edible?"

At some point, a delivery is made to Gibb's room. There's a beautiful bouquet of flowers, a few books (classics, mostly), and some freshly baked cookies.

Sarah visits later in the day. She's in her nurse's uniform, even. She's got a thermos of something hot with her. "Good morning," she says, if he's awake. "You'll be getting out of her soon, so I thought I'd sneak you in some hot cocoa while I had the chance."

Gibbs is reading when she shows up, slowly and painfully, but grateful for the distraction. "Morning," he rasps, and smiles at her. "Cocoa? Really?"

She smiles back, inwardly wincing at the raspy voice. Poor Cornelius. "Yes, really. The have hot chocolate here, but it's instant." She makes a face, then takes a seat next to his bed. "I brought marshmallows, too. The little kind. How are you feeling?"

"Instant's okay, but the real thing is better. Especially with marshmallows." He sets his book aside. "I'm better. Still aches a little, but I think in a day or two I'll be just fine. How...is everyone else?"
