I believe the smoke comes up from the underground when the subway passes under it. Did you ever hear the noise of the trains right before or after the smoke? I may be completely wrong, but I think that's what it is. :)
Lovely pictures dear. I look forward to seeing the rest of your trip from your perspective. :)
Hmm, yeah now I think about it, I can't remember if I heard a noise of the trains right before or after the smoke. I'll have to check next time I'm there.
But even so, surely NYC isn't using steam trains? Heh. Would electric trains make smoke? :/
Actually, I just saw an article in the paper today about an underground steam pipe that exploded in NYC yesterday. So it's not the subways, it's steam pipes built under the ground back in the '20s! Yay! I know the answer! I knew it was steam rather than smoke that came up (b/c homeless people sometimes sleep on the grates to keep warm in the winter). But that explains it better, I think.
Cool pictures! I recognize a couple of places from my trip there last summer (Rockefeller Plaza, Times Square, and I think that church might be the cathedral I visited (St. Luke's, maybe?)).
-___-; I still slip up now and then and say 'Drug Store' every now and then. Of course, my GP was like 'huh???? Drug Store?'
I think the smoke comes up from the underground subway o__O;; ('coz NY NY has subways whereas LA does not) at least that's what my friend from the Queens told me.
Yep, this is what I don't get, as we... have a sorta subway system in the CBD in Sydney I guess and I've never seen smoke pouring up onto the road :/ Although, maybe it's not quite the same. *shurgs*
Oh Nintendo world was Nintendo heaven. And the DS and Gameboy Advance games there were so cheap compared to anywhere else I've seen. I picked up Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga (that's now deleted in Australia) on GBA for a friend for only $19.95. So that's, what, something like $22 or $25 Australian dollars.
Yeah, I was hoping the fire hydrant would be red too. It felt wrong not being red. Nah, didn't get my DS engraved, but eh, maybe another time in the future :D
Indeedy! I think you're going to have a blast when you go :)

Can't wait to see all that stuff (though I'm amused by how much time you spent in the Nintendo Store - though I can't blame you - it's *awesome*.
Personally I'm disappointed that the fire hydrant isn't red ;) Don't suppose you got your DS engraved? ;)
Looks like you had a great time :)
