First there was nothing but physical pain. Then the heavy steel door was gone and emotional agony eclipsed the physical. Mohinder’s entire lower body was mangled beyond recognition and he knew without a doubt that the horrific sight would be one of his last. He certainly shouldn’t be conscious.
He wasn’t alert enough to realize he hadn’t seen anyone move the door, but as tears of pain and grief escaped his eyes it was impossible not to notice the gentle touch that wiped them away. It was then that he realized it was only his lower body that was in agony. Mohinder took a deep breath and tried to calm himself enough to see straight.
Long, pale, eerily familiar fingers swam into clarity, ghosting across his hips, skin and bone knitting itself back together as they passed by. Pulling himself as far out of the searing pain as he could, Mohinder realized his head was being cradled in the warmth of someone’s lap.
It was all so surreal that Mohinder desperately summoned the strength to pull his eyes from the horror that was his lower body, dragged them upwards and almost wished he hadn’t.
Sylar, his eyes closed in intense concentration, hands passing back and forth over Mohinder’s broken body, healing as they passed. A string of impossibilities, one after another, and all Mohinder could do was stare.
Sylar paused, feeling Mohinder’s stare, and met it. He leaned forward, lips tenderly brushing against blood splattered skin.
“Shhhh, you’re safe now.”
