Five women I would like to see good films about

1) Harriet Jacobs. Which. Admittedly if there were a biopic about her coming out I would probably be terrified of it and antsy and not want to go see it in theaters because oh my god I would need to be able to stop the tape and walk away and come back to get through it, but she just blows me away, and and and it could be awesome ( Read more... )

4. So with you here! This is mainly because my undergraduate college was St Hilda's, I'm sure, but we had annual Hild day, and we went to the Abbey, and oh, she was amazing.

There are really not enough films about awesome intellectual women with authority. Which she sure had in spades.

I don't know that I could come up with five that there haven't already been plenty of movies on. For instance, Lady Hamilton -- but there are, already. (Really I just want a musical about her. And even then, there's already an opera!) Joan of Arc - obvs. Hatshepsut - yeah. Mine are all obvious choices. Well, and Abigail Adams, because everyone seems to focus on her husband and okay, but come on. And #5 is ME because, you know. I'm gonna be amazing someday.

There's a film about Hatshepsut? That's awesome. I've only ever seen novels.

And a Lady Hamilton musical would be awesome. You could have dance sequences to cover stretches of spy operations.

Actually - you're right, I've never seen a movie about her. I was thinking media in general, that she's not exactly obscure or unknown, but now I come to think of it (and look it up) - there's one TV thing about her, called "Secrets of Egypt's Lost Queen" or something like that, but nothing else. So I take it back - she gets to go on the list!

I bet it's all the crossdressing - usually if Hollywood is going to do a film with manipulation of gender coding in it they want that to be the whole point instead of just a bit of plot. Alas. Still! Hatshepsut, she was awesome. "Hmmm. We seem to have a great many enemies. I will change this through - THE EXPANSION OF TRADE!" All very sensible.
