WHY is it that every time rape is mentioned, someone will first claim they never blame the victims and then BLAME THE VICTIMS?!

*headdesk*

I hate college boys. I'm not dating men. Ever.

(Unless John Quincy Adams' reincarnation turns up unattached and digging me. Then I think I'd have to make an exception.)

Boys scare me sometimes. I guess it's not totally their fault that they think that way, but it still scares me.

I would still go out with Horace, though. And Vergil if he weren't, you know, gay as gay can be.

They terrify me sometimes. I'm supposed to be, you know, attracted to these people? When they can talk this way about girls? Of which I am one? Aaaaack.

...This is a good point. I would also make exceptions for them. :) And for a number of other men - Charles Stuart Mill, for one. But. Yes.

Our culture still has the creepiest ideas when it comes to rape. Seriously.

Ugh.

I don't know much about college male psychology specifically, but I think that blaming the victim in general is often a superstitious reflex. They're trying to reassure themselves that rape etc. is something that can be brought on by specific actions and prevented by specific precautions, which they know, and therefore they don't have to consider the idea that bad stuff can happen to anybody.

Oh, I know that. I've known that for years.

Thing is, when faced with logical explanations of the fact that this is what is happening, this is what you are doing, and while it's understandable it's still not appropriate or reasonable, a sure way to invoke the wrath of the Nanni is to insist that's not what you're doing, you'd never do that, and then go on to say women get raped because they don't get moving violations as often as men, and therefore have equal rights but not equal accountability.

...

It was not a good time.

Yes. *snugs*

(And I don't care, you don't essentially call friends stupid sluts. Asshole. How can boys be so nice to hummingbirds and so mean to girls?)

I hate most college boys, too. Fortunately, the set of "men" is not comprised soley of the set of "college boys."

I know a few college boys I like; they're all gay or adorably feminist and consequently taken.

I knoooow. *sighs heavily* Overblown rhetoric is bad, I know. It's just -

No one backed me up, you know? Here I am, the ONLY one in a large class saying that that kind of talk isn't cool and isn't accurate, and NO ONE will chime in and say "she's right".

*glowers* Why is agreeing so hard? You didn't even have to call anyone on anything! Just back me up.

I noticed the "all taken" phenomenon in high school, too. Someday I'll get to a cool lad or lassie first.
