Conseil is an extraordinarially cute fellow. This is a very well-done piece of fic...you seem to have quite a handle on Conseil already, I must say. He's an interesting character...it's easy to write him off as a secondary figure, since he spends most of his time waiting on Arronax, but I've always adored him. and he and Ned Land were meant to be

Thanks! :) I think that from a structural point of view Conseil is a secondary character, but its Verne, so the secondary characters are important immensely, and, anyway, I like them. Besides, Conseil is indeed a doll, and he has that wonderful, easy sense of humor. And you kind of just have to love a man who can calmly take notice of all the damage done to his ship in the middle of that kind of confusion.

I'm going to have to write Conseil/Ned at some point, aren't I?

I love Conseil too.

I think he won my heart when he jumped off the ship after Arronax, because he's Arronax's servant and he's supposed to follow him everywhere, right? So innocent.

*squees softly* You know, you really do make him so right. You bring out what's canonical about him, what makes him such a good manservant, too, and you put your own things into him, too, and he comes out right. I love him dearly.
