With water? As in H20? Really?
I thought that major server farms with their own air con had C02 fire systems. The ones I've been in flood with carbon dioxide and suck all the oxygen out of the room if a fire is detected. Thus the rule that everyone has to sign in and out of the room. So that if it happens, the fire wardens can fish you out try to stop the brain death after 2 mins without oxygen.

Yup. It is water.

For some reason the computer room in the building uses a water system instead of CO2 or halon. I don't know why that decision was made.

Apparently water extinguisher system is different to a usual one in that the water pipes in the ceiling don't hold water until it is activated. So if one of tubes/sprinkter heads breaks they won't spray water.
