I want a netbook.

I want a teeny tiny device that fits in my purse and does not hurt my back or my hip, both of which hurt every few weeks from carrying too much crap around, including a MBP.

I don't mind ubuntu.  I mostly want to web and ssh anyway, with perhaps a bit of document creation, but come on, google docs?  whatev, I just need a good ( Read more... )

I kind of love my eee pc, except when I wish it did graphics stuff or could store more media. But it's cute, and works great for web surfing and word processing.

What eeepc did you get? I hear there are different ones, but I don't know much about them.

Would you recommend it to someone? Did you just happen up on it or did you pick it specifically? I fall into so many computers without any thought on my part that I am struck dumb trying to pick.

I got an eee 900ha. Requirements were: 1) real 9" form factor 2) hard drive (use it for photos) 3) matte screen. It's pretty much a no-brainer if those are your requirements. The only downside is that the 9" models' keyboards are hard to type on. The 10" ones can be super-easy, so if you want to type a lot, you want a 10" model.

The eees are easy to upgrade RAM and HD, and are well-built. As long as you get Atom and a screen that fills the lid, they're never a wrong answer. There are a lot of other good ones, though. I'd recommend a matte screen. It might not look as colorful, but you can use it if you're not in a cave.
