Forgive me, but - what happened?

Fires in Orange County.. there are three bigs ones going on not 15 minutes away from where I live. Not close enough to burn anything, but close enough to smell and feel. The county fire authority has asked people to stay home and not go out, and people are actually paying attention! It's like a ghost town outside.
