Rediscovered ficlets

Rediscovered when I was looking at the prompt list for some femslash ficathon. And discovered that they were all Inara/someone prompts. Pah! I thought to myself, where are the Zoe prompts? Apparently Wash and Zoe both are not allowed to play with anyone but each other.

I freely admit to not wanting Wash and Zoe to play with anyone but eachother. Wash/Zoe is probably the first pairing I was really protective of. Normally I'm pretty flexible. Even so, while Wash and Zoe can never, ever play with anyone else during their courtship or marriage, as for AU, pre-courtship or post-BDM, anything goes. Except for Wash/Kaylee. For some reason I can't even read that pairing as an AU where Zoe is a non-issue. I don't know why.

Anyway, what I trying to say was, the Zoe/River worked, in a disturbing sort of way (but I'm assuming that was the intention?). It's a very plausible, if somewhat nasty situation. You managed to create a really nice balance between disturbing and comforting.

The second ficlet was great, and plausible as well. I always thought there was way more to Wash's history and position on Serenity than meets the eye (and not just because that 'position' happens to be between Mal and Zoe's pillows ;))

My issue with Wash/Zoe in fandom, is that no one can get it as perfect as it was on screen. Of course, there's good fic of those two out there and I enjoy it when I take the time to look for it but on the whole...I already get my Wash/Zoe fix from the series. *eg* Wash/Kaylee are like brother/sister. And since I ship Simon/River, I guess that explains why I love them so much together. :P

Is it because that position happens to between Mal and Zoe? Forget about the pillows... ;)

Wash and Kaylee are like brother/sister, which is precisely why I don't ship them. Incest is one thing in fanfic that has me clicking the back button- mostly. I can handle a well-written Simon/River provided it's meant to be disturbing, because there is some subtext for that in canon (though there's subtext for every concievable pairing in any fandom if you look hard enough). I've stumbled across fics that have Simon and River in a perfectly happy, fluffy romance with flowers and chocolates, and that usually calls for a big eye roll. Just like those Mal/River or Jayne/River fics where Mal or Jayne turn into Mr Romantical.

Basically, River/anyone disturbs me. :P

Mal/Zoe/Wash, however is practically canon!
