And to make it even more super - the improvised bbq works every bit as well as my normal one :D Testing of the toasting and charring apparatus was a huge success, and the first bbq of Summer has now been had, officially starting the warmest season :D

Next weekend we'll have to crank it up on the Saturday so we can sit around the fire after and get tiddly :P

Am so jealous of your impending warmness. I ran my heater for the first time yesterday.

well the bbq and I aren't going anywhere in a hurry so what we can try and do is send you as many pics of the thing at work in the hopes they will warm you up :)

Yes indeed it was, Batten burg, steam armours and bbq's, not exactly the complete British tea on the lawn but close enough :)

How do you bake a Battenburg cake?

I have always wondered.

Well, not always always, but always for a good percentage of always, anyway.

You know what I mean.

Or possibly you don't.

Huh.

okay i have a recipe i used, but essentially its a two colour sponge wrapped in marzipan, there are some slight differences though.

And i guarantee that any Englishman you know will go gaga if you make one :) as in my experience i have never seen a Battenburg in NZ, nor met anyone born here who knew what it was, (yesterday nonwithstanding as she turned out to be from Manchester UK, my dads old neck of the woods.)

I, uh, don't do marzipan. But thank you very much for the description.
