Okay, presupposing:

1. The most annoying thing in the world is when someone rolls into a fandom two years after its heyday and acts like they have original opinions.

2. Feelings Facts are boring, kissing is awesome ( Read more... )

Man, now I just really want a wormhole between Somerville and the Financial District.

But, yeah, Fringe's insistence on name-checking places semi-randomly made me just decide to treat their Boston as, you know, left-of-reality AU Boston from a comic book style universe that is not necessarily this one but has many similarities. I still get momentarily distracted by the inaccuracies, but not as much as I would if it was a gritty realism show or whatever.

Maybe this is all an elaborate plot to plant subtle clues that while we THINK that Fringe's primary universe is our universe, it's actually the other other side, a magical place where Porter Square is one bend of a car chase from Government Center.

...yeah, either that or they just randomly pick places off a map. I usually ignore it, but my parents also watch the show and sometimes I'll be visiting them in California and they'll be like, "Oh yeah, that place, you've mentioned that place, where's that?" and I'm like, "I don't know, that's Vancouver, British Columbia."

A fellow local here via friendsfriends, and given the number of fires on the T this month, I would much rather scatter my molecules through a wormhole to get downtown than trust the Red Line to get me there intact these days.

(Also, hooray, I am not the only person who sees that show and can't stop thinking Pacey Witter, what kind of trouble have you gotten yourself into now?)

Two fires in one day. TWO FIRES IN ONE DAY. Seriously, the Red Line and I are fucking done professionally.

One of the things I appreciate about White Collar is that they very rarely specify where they are, so I don't have to be like, NO! THAT IS NOT 53rd and THIRD! the way I am with Castle. Otoh, at least White Collar is actually filmed in NYC. (As was Fringe in its first season.)

And then there is always that random show that randomly nails the place where you live -- for me, this was the fourth season episode of Friday Night Lights where Tami and Julie visit BC, which must have been shot on location, because I swear I could tell you where they were standing in Harvard Square within, like, twelve inches of accuracy.

DIAL-A-PIZZA SQUARE REPRESEEEENT! Ahahaha, I heartily endorse this call for more Bostonian realism in fictional items/television programs. ngl, I've spent considerable time thinking about the post-finale Gilmore Girls fic where Paris Gellar knows a lot about the best falafel stand by Harvard Medical and when Fenway traffic is going to destroy her day.

Did you ever see 21, the wretched item wrt MIT students and gambling? By far the most interesting/distracting part was all the Boston fuckups, like when they're on the T going "express to Alewife" and pass through Davis .... and then Quincy station. Or when the kid goes to ride his bike over a bridge by Harvard... that you can't bike over, because it has stairs. Ahhhh, things. (Now I want to watch Fringe for the lulz, and I don't even know what it's about.)

I actually think you would enjoy Fringe, it's a little bit slow-starting but then it goes balls to the wall with its parallel universe shenanigans in a very show-don't-tell small-detail way that's kind of incredibly awesome. Also, I never saw 21 but the #1 reason why I bemoan the fact that I didn't get my act together to see The Town in theaters is that apparently a Metro newspaper kiosk gets blown up. OH BEN AFFLECK, YOU KNOW WHERE MY WRETCHED HEART TRULY LIVES.

Hahahaha, what?! GLORIOUS. I saw about ten minutes of that the other day and it had scenes on Yawkey and in the bowels of Fenway and it gave me feeeeeeelings.

I will take your recommendation under advisement! (As soon as I finish catching up on HIMYM, FNL and Mad Men. Oi.) Perhaps we need to start a list of television items to consume when you guest star on Jews of the South??

eta: what the fuck, livejournal, where is the comment I was replying to??

I started watching the fifth season of FNL this morning -- I wanted to be able to watch all the episodes in a row, and so back in, like, December I counted backwards from the day the finale aired and figured out I could start watching one episode a day ... on the 31st of January. So I almost made it! I caved a week early. You have to watch it all before sweeps week on Jews of the South so we can discuss!

HAHA DIAL-A-PIZZA SQUARE. IT'S WHERE THE BEST HARVARD PEOPLE LIVE, GENKILL FANDOM, AND IS THE CLASSIEST AREA. (Also I enjoy how we are treating that like that's the real name now, BUT SRSLY.) Lololol I haven't read any GenKill fic at all because I ship Brad/Ray and all the fic is Nate/Brad which I would be fine with as a lesser ship but it pisses me off that the CLEARLY MORE CANONICAL SHIP is neglected aaaaand I am a crazy person. But you knew that. But now I want to read the fic just for the Boston inaccuracies ahaha.

(Lol I didn't know it was called the Larz Anderson bridge either buuuut "The one that's not the BU Bridge" totally tells me what bridge it is? SAD.)

Also I had been thinking of taking up Fringe and didn't even know it was set in fictional Boston! That makes me want to watch it even more, for the lulz. Awesommmme.

See, I think those dudes you who told you it was called Dial-a-Pizza Square may have been cutting edge taste makers, because I exclusively refer to that neighborhood by that name and NOBODY EVER ASKS ME WHERE I'M TALKING ABOUT THEY ALWAYS KNOW ( ... )

Ahahahaha, cutting edge taste makers, that is actually VERY PLAUSIBLE. When you think about it, that is a neighborhood that really needs a name, and that name is VERY DESCRIPTIVE, I bet in five years it will be called Dial-A-Pizza Square on maps. (Fun fact: I lived in Dial-a-Pizza Square for SEVEN YEARS and yet never once dialed a pizza.)

And yeah, I can see what you're saying wrt Brad/Ray, because also Ray is super hard to write and who needs Ray to be angsty? That would be a sad world.

(I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT, BUT OMG, BRAD REALLY IS THE FICTIONAL CHARACTER OF HER SOUL. Tell Katie to get ON that.)

(ALSO I love feeling nostalgic for Vancouver X-Files! I WILL GET ON BOARD THAT. Would it make sense to just pick Fringe up with season 2, or is season 1 worth it enough to push through?)

INDEED I AM IN TALKS!!!!!! I think it's totally going to work out, I am VERY EXCITED. We haven't had a big ratings-grabbing reunion crossover episode in so long!

BUT WHAT WILL THE CLIFFHANGER BE?!

(Do you know why you never dialed a pizza? Because you care about your life/soul/internal organs. I don't know *anyone* who's ever dialed a pizza.)
