so i saw a midnight show of true love in a lake: the movie harry potter and the goblet of fire last night and i wanted to tell you all about it but i'm writing a ten-page term paper about rates of undetected and untreated HPV among lesbian-identified women and that takes up a lot of time plus all the time i spend asking everyone around me if they'

speaking of which, i've fallen down a little bit on the secret items, i apologize, but i'm putting up 109 and 110 right now if you need them.

hey, no worries on the secret items; in the last five days, i've slept for 18 hours total, and until tonight i'd kind of forgotten about them entirely due to sleep deprivation and romantic comedies about two 14 year old boys. i've got everything up through 109 so far, if it matters to you and your bandwith. and again: you are the best of us. thank you.

I work in an Indigenous Health service in Australia, and we're currently collecting samples for an HPV trial as well. You know, how many indigenous vs. non-indigenous women have it... So far we have like a 35% positive rate for HPV among our group, which is mainly indigenous, but that will be sorted out more accurately at the end of the trial.
OMG will not bore you with any more details, but yay for someone else on the other side of the world who I do not know from Eve mentioning HPV in their LJ post!! What is the prevalence among lesbians? Am nerd, clearly.:)

i'm in a grad program for public health and the paper is for a class called social and behavioral dimensions of health, so it's mostly about reasons why lesbians allow their HPV to go undetected and untreated. one of the problems i'm having is that there's no comphrensive information on prevalance, the best i've found is some very small sample-sized studies that suggest that lesbians test positive at a rate about 30%. what's really interesting is that 19% of women who reported only having had sex with women in their entire lifetime tested positive, suggesting that HPV can be transmitted in sex between women, something that hasn't been thought to be true. my paper is turning out to be more about barriers that stop lesbians from getting regular pap smear tests, though, because that's an area where there's a lot more research.
hahah, now who's boring who with details?

But your paper sounds very interesting! I can count on one hand the number of pap smears I've performed on women I knew to be lesbians. I guess it's the assumption that only women having sex with men need worry about pap's (and I'm sure many other things that your paper will eloquently and brilliantly bring to light). Good luck with it anyway.:)

Also, your post had me laughing so hard I was crying, and then I proceeded to read it aloud to the rest of my household, who wanted to know what the heck I was reading. So much love.

The last five minutes where we're joking and kidding was, you know, horrible. And I wish there had been more Sirius, because, damn it! SIRIUS! LIE LOW AT LUPIN'S!!
Despite all that, Oh, THE LOVE. THEY HAD A TRUNCATED VERSION OF MY FAVORITE SCENE IN THE HARRY POTTER BOOKS!!
I picked the right week to delete my Harry/Ron icon, I tell you.
