Glad to see you writing Dwarves again--"Speak, Friend, and Enter" is a classic and this is an impressive addition to that far-reaching personal canon.

I am certain that Gimli would have named his axe, and kept the name to himself. Great choice of a name.

Yes, definitely writing Dwarves again! Or Gimli, anyway. I'm glad that you felt it was a positive addition to that personal canon; I did hope it didn't come across as being too authorly self-aware or something like that. Thanks for the comments!

This is, as always, even though short, packed with beautiful wording and meaning. I'm, as usual, in awe of your way with words.

And I agree, Gimli's naming of the axe and the name is wonderful.

For some reason, this jumped off the page to me, "Overhead the stars glittered, bright jewels scattered against night's mantle."

So beautiful! I wish I could write like that! ;P

A lovely vignette!

Hugs! And I'll call you! :D

Thank you so very much! I'm thrilled that you felt it packed a punch even though it's a pretty short vignette. And sweetie, you do write like that! Most of us do have unique/memorable imagery from time to time; it's only a couple of people I know who do that with the kind of consistency that makes me green with envy. ;)

Hope that your week is starting off well!

If I fall in battle, I will be surrounded by Men only.

I never thought about this: what a desperate loneliness there would be, even though surrounded by friends.

Lovely.

:rubs hands: Ah, good! One of the things that makes writing about Gimli in particular so fun for me is to pick out these small moments in canon and really get into his head in a way that many readers of Tolkien and Tolkien fanfic don't- I'm all about illuminating the way I think Gimli's mind and heart work. ;) Thank you so much for your comments!

Absolutely gorgeous - and, as always, insightful. The last line made the whole vignette.

I love your Gimli!

I love your Gimli! This is beautifully done, and as always, insightful. The last line really makes the whole vignette.
