Long day of driving, take two.

Jun 21, 2008 23:46

I seem to be able to grossly underestimate the time it takes for me to get from point A to B these days. :P I'd thought seven hours; instead, it was 9 1/2 before I was safely in elfscribe5's driveway. Still, here I am in Tucson, safe and sound. In keeping with my new moniker, Arrives With Storms, I did get rained on at the 79 miles from Tucson mark. Though ( Read more... )

Say "hi" and give elfscrbe a big hug for me. I would be even more insufferably jealous if I hadn't had the opportunity to do much the same as the two of you are doing today. Met a good fanfic friend of mine today in Manhattan (Pandemonium). We met at great Spanish restaurant in the Village and then walked to Washington Square Park and talked and talked. Have a wonderful time.

It's just so wonderful to get to be in real time and real space with people who are kindred spirits; I'm thrilled that you were able to meet up with a fandom friend of yours recently! I just gave Elfscribe your hug. :)

Will do! It's incredibly hot, though inside the house it's just fine. :) I ran into rain on the way, but my ability to bring the storms has been stopped here. Apparently the monsoon season will start soon; I just can't imagine. The mountains are pretty amazing, but I may not have time for the hike. Thank you for the suggestion, though!

Hey, lovely one!
After I could sleep properly the last two nights again, I'm now feeling much better (you must have laughed at my poor grammar in my last mail, which had come from my recent drowsiness *lol*). So here I am, savoring the beautiful photos you've posted...
They are WOW! I want to be THERE, too!!! Gosh, I'll have to visit Mexico one day! I've always wanted to... *sigh*
And it's great that you're having such a nice time again :-) You really deserve it!
Oh, just take your time to relax ;-)
(((warm hugs))) (or rather cooling ones maybe, if it's so hot over there? ;-) )

Hello, precious! I was able to start on your story this morning; my body clock is so out of whack that I woke up pretty early and then sat outside, listening to the strange sounds of insects and birds I'm not used to hearing, beginning the Froia/Colurastes fic. It's so fun to be able to talk both Tolkien and Wraeththu with Elfscribe, here in her kitchen!!

I do think I'll have some relaxing time in the pool; it's just so pleasant to not have an agenda. :D

(((cooling hugs, lol)))

A pool?!? I'm jealous! *lol*
And strange sounds of insects add well to get into a Froia mood... XD
I'm so curious what you'll write then. And again thank you sooo much! *places kiss on your cheek*
Please greet Elfscribe from me, and tell her I like her fics as well, will you? And go on enjoying yourself there! :-)
(((even more hugs)))

I will! We've been talking Wraeththu and Tolkien, which is just so much fun. I think I may be able to convince her to let us spend some time watching a slashy movie or two as well, since she initially offered that up. ;)

oh, god, you're doing horrible desert things to me. Not that I've ever been to that desert, and actually it's more green than the desert I have been to, but although I could never live in a desert, one of my fondest memories is of the Judean desert in the late afternoon. I have never known such stillness. There, it made sense why holy men of past years would go into the desert to find god, because you are nothing there, stripped and naked. Also, I've been in a desert mood lately, as I was only just remarking to someone else.

It sounds like your trip is going well, high winds and all - they're very scary to drive in! But your visits seem bright. I'm so glad you're enjoying yourself.

I do seem to associate you with deserts, in that kind of getting down to the basics kind of way, finding one's true self, as you more eloquently wrote it. I did find myself speaking out loud at different points, wondering who on earth lived in these remote parts of the state, and what they did to survive. I will say that while it's interesting, the sun is far too relentless and I'm far too pale and very conscious of that. Hence the move to Oregon, where I can thrive in the grey skies that I hear are common, at least in winter.

The gusty winds have feaked me out more than once, especially when I'd thought that with my loaded down car, I'd be impervious. But the winds can be very intense. This is certainly a trip that I doubt I'll have the luxury of taking twice in a lifetime, so I'm savoring it as I go, both the being in the moment of it, but also in the telling of the tales and sharing with those who are meaningful to me. Like you! ((hugs))
