New recs of a different color

I bring two recs in two genres I don't believe I've ever recc'ed before: original fiction, and Mary Renault's The Persian Boy. Both are authors whom I've come to know thanks to my new foray into Wraeththu fandom, and they are accomplished authors in realms outside of Wraeththu fandom. They're also intelligent, droll, charming individuals I am ( Read more... )

I have seen elfscribe5 around, but I don't know her yet... I am zooming ('zooming' is a relative term for bookmarking and reading after work) off to read and comment

And I'm off like a prom dress to read camile_senesis other works and then to smack her for not being more forthcoming (JK... not!) LOL

Thanks for the reccomendations!!! :D :D

You're so welcome! I consider it very good karma to put out recommendations of fabulous writing and writers. :D And the best part is that both of these authors are so delightful as people. And you, too!! ♥

I'm afraid my Collected Works don't amount to very much. I had the sudden urge to create a back-up site last year, in case LJ got taken over by shoe-hating Freemason Martians or something, and I was going to put all my fan-fiction and fiction-without-fans on it - it seemed like a good idea at the time! - but it was really just an excuse to prove to myself that I was smrt enough to install Wordpress, and most of the Stuff is still in the orginal cardboard box, but I'm sure I'll finish it one year day!

Oh wow Thevina, I'm blown away. Thank you so much for the HUGE compliment. I'm so pleased you enjoyed O's lessons. At some point I'll try camile's fic. It sounds intriguing. So much to read, so little time. Will get back to you soon - this is a busy week. *smooches*

You're so welcome! Not to worry, I'll get you a proper review with quoted back sections and let you know I was in tears last night when I finished, vowing not to write again until I could write with the seeming ease with which your prose just flowed... I also read a couple of your Elvish PWPs last night before sinking so profoundly into the Bagoas story, and they are so fun and hot! I owe you a slew of feedback, but hoped that the public rec would make up for that a little bit. :) Plus I have several people on my flist who I know love Renault and The Persian Boy in particular. I couldn't keep a gem like your story to myself!

Thank you! My ego is now totally out of control, and I will have to fight it back into it's cage with a chair and a whip! ;-) *attempts to be intelligent, droll and charming, simultaneously*

Curiously enough, I bought Mary Renault's "Alexander" trilogy just before Christmas, since so many people (including Storm Constantine) had praised it. Unfortunately, what with one thing and another, I didn't get very far, but obviously I need to get stuck in again!

I'll put it on my To Do list (along with finishing a couple of other Wraeththu stories) for when spreadsheets stop eating my life!

Oh, given your comments, I doubt your ego is that wild and untamable!! ;)

Mary Renault's writing is superb. I hope that you enjoy it; I especially loved The Persian Boy, though I've read and really been enraptured by others of her stories as well.

I hope the spreadsheets soon get full and quit eating your life as well!!
