Thrifty gifty?

Do you give thrifted/yardsaled/fleamarketed gifts? Do you tell the recipient or keep it to yourself?

I totally give repurposed things. Most people I tell, and they appreciate it. Sometimes I don't tell them until they exclaim how much they like it and/or where I bought it :)

Giving anything fun this holiday season?

My younger brother and I both love thrifting and we give each other thrifted gifts. If I see something at a yard sale or thrift store that I know a friend collects, I'll buy it and save it until the holidays. It's fun to get that one Seattle World's Fair glass you've been searching for under the tree!

This year I found an autographed cookbook that my brother is going to love. He and his wife went to the chef's restaurant for their anniversary and couldn't stop raving. It's just too bad that his name's not Clara!

I've done it before, if it looks like-new (or cleans up super well) and I know the recipient isn't squicked out about thrifted goods. Or if it's something funny and really fits the person!

I always used to buy Christmas-themed platters, baskets, etc. at thrift stores and use them as containers for homemade baked goods for my kids to give as gifts for their teachers. I have a friend who collects snowmen and if I can pick up a cute snowman-themed platter she gets that piled with chocolate chip cookies as a Christmas gift.

I will give something if it is new in the box. Also a friend and I swap things that we know each other would like year round. Recently I spotted an unused word search book, which I know she does and a funny magnet that was hanging out in a basket of junk jewelry
