this is sort of sad to me. did you see this as comforting? or sad?

For me, it falls into the the sweetly intimate category, with the knowledge that it's actually very dull to any outside observer. I'm sure one could write a very gripping New Yorker short story that capitalizes on it as a -loss- of intimacy, and in fact, I think the movie Mr & Mrs. Smith has a scene like it, too, that is supposed to show a sort of "going through the motions". But the times I've seen it in my coworkers, and the times I've done it myself, it's just kind of nice. To plan a meal with someone.
