So I randomly googled Steampunk this morning and was shocked to find that not only is it a genre of sci-fi, but it's this whole fashion... thing! Am I the only one who didn't know this? *hangs head in shame* Anyway, just in case others are as ignorant as I am, I grabbed a bunch of images/websites because I feel like they really give an amazing ( Read more... )

oh it is indeed a fashion-thingy, a marvelous one.
I've been REALLY inspired by the dragon corps uniforms lately, and as I'm studying a bit more rare handcraft (shoes to be exact) I'm really gonna make myself a pair of the most steampunk riding boots ever.

and more about the fashion. steampunk costumes ate much like victorian ones- just bit twisted I think;) By taking a victorian outfit and adding some nice accessories you get yourself a very good steampunk style.

It reminds me of gothic lolita but with technological aspects as opposed to a babydoll version of Victorian style. The use of goggles seems a bit excessive, but I like the other stuff. How have the corps uniforms been brought into it? A sort of military look?

I think the corps uniforms much like victorian style uniforms. and when riding, they have their boots (pirate-style?), gloves and goggles of course.

there are many styles of steampunk- as there are many styles of gothic lolitas. I prefer a bit more simple outfits, a little of working class-style, not so fine fabrics and stuff. but it all depends, of course, how a person sees it and what kind of style s/he likes.

Yeah, Rook's boots were described as "tall but slouched" or somesuch, so I was definitely thinking pirate-type. I think I'd go for the fancier clothes, maybe... I could totally see myself cosplaying as a trashy steampunk whore LOL.

Steampunk is quite honestly the most amazing fashion trend like, ever. It's so damn expensive, though, but it looks gorgeous. And it's even more awesome since I associate Havemercy with it. |D

Yeah, I used to be really into cosplay, and it cost about $30 for a whole outfit, and my friends who had their costumes professionally made spent about ten times that. I love Jo-Ann Fabrics!

I actually don't cosplay at all, but rather, um, (I really have no idea how to say it in english....) just make outfits and dress like some era-style. In finnish we call it somewhat *bringing history alive*.

Oh, I love steampunk fashion! It's crap ass expensive if you want the real victorian and extravagant clothing but like every other style of fashion, steampunk is what you make it.
I seem to have a thing for pretty much any style of fashion that involves some kind of historical clothing....

Well, 'nough about me. www.clockworkcouture.com/ have some nice, more "casual" clothing for reasonable prices. I've never bought anything from them myself but from what I've heard it's rather nice stuff ;)
