Because there's only so much that can be done. Even if we killed him, he'd just come back.

It has been tried before but, well. You'll have to talk to Batou and Remy about that.

Huh?

He'll come back? What do you mean?

I mean you kill someone, they come back a day later and you're stuck in the brig for three. I guess no one told you yet.

Hate to break it to joo liddle mon but it is common 'round here. Most everyone be used to it by now and if someone can't take care of demself well, dat be dere fault.

Crew barely do anytin' 'bout it. Da punishments barely be slaps on da wrists and da rules be easy to bend.

[Sounding angry] If an innocent person gets attacked by someone stronger than them and they can't fight back, it's not their fault. It's the fault of the person assaulting them.

[Pauses, trying not to get too angry. Kevas is nice, Link doesn't want to get mad at him when he was replying to his question.]

... What do you mean, punishments and rules?

If joo can't fight back den joo den joo try not to make joorself a target. [He sighs.] Listen liddle mon, I know joo t'ink it ain't fair and joo know what? Joo be right, but joo can't protect everyone. Best joo can do is keep da ones joo really care 'bout close and keep dem safe.

Redd be havin' a set of rules on dis ship. If joo can even call dem dat. Joo attack someone and joo get some stupid punishment. Joo kill someone and joo be put in da brig fuh t'ree days. But if joo do eiddah in "self-defense" den joo get off free. Dat just be meanin' if somone hits joo first, den joo can do anytin' to dem widout gettin' punished.

Hm. I see.

[That's exactly what happened to Herz, Link's sure of it.]

...thanks.

He hit first, so it's his fault.

threedaystime July 23 2009, 00:30:29 UTC
It doesn't matter who hit first. Nothing Herz could have done would warrant what happened to him. Not to mention I didn't see anyone else there with any injuries.

Besides, the person I met yesterday - for a person like him to have hit first, he was threatened.

nantokanare July 23 2009, 00:41:16 UTC
And he succumbed to that threat. He gave in first, so he lost. This was the consequence.

[[...Right. No.]]

Would you use a bomb to get rid of a case of fleas, then? Don't be ridiculous. Trying to legitimize this is ridiculous.

...It appears the things that could be considered good about the environment hide things like this beneath it. It... is not the first time something like this has happened. It reminds some people, I am sure, of exactly how powerless they are here.

...I am aware, however, that Sir Herz is a good friend of Jak's--and in consequence, likely a good enemy of Sir Erol's. I have never spoken with him personally, but I always send my thoughts through Jak. I do worry about the inhabitants of the ship, even... if death seems to be a... brief experience.

It does not make it any more right. One could say the time spent aboard this ship causes people to change and to forget their priorities... I pray such a thing will never happen to those whose compassion we rely upon.

Princess.

Are you friends with Erol...?

[...Wow. That question came from left field. Zelda's blushing, though not as much as she could be. How would she define herself and Erol...? What is it between them? She knows well enough of his reputation. But she also knows of the Erol that shows when he's around her...]

...Sir Erol...
I cannot say what we are. At times it seems as though we could be allies. At times it seems we could be family.

I only know that I want to help him, that I believe there is something beneath all of it. I may not condone of everything he does, but I cannot deny that not once has he ever made a move to harm me. On the contrary...

Sir Erol has always been very adamant on protecting me.

[How can she think completely badly of someone with so much dedication toward her?]

[It strikes him like a baseball bat to the back of the head. Has Zelda learned nothing from what they had to go through in Hyrule? Wasn't she the one who could see through Ganondorf's lies, when not a single person believed her, not even her father?

Link really wants to place his trust in her judgement, like he always has... but this is different. The sight of Herz lying in his bed and his brief exchange with Erol is enough evidence for him.]

Princess... I have to...

I humbly admit that I think your... judgement... of "Sir Erol" is not accurate.

You tell me? Herz gets maimed and his attacker gets off without much of a scratch. Some great captain this is.

If the rules are in place to discourage violence, then they should actually do that, instead of just being hoops to jump through before you can go ahead and carve someone's face up.

[Keeping in mind Link has no idea who you are, Kage.]
