The idea that everyone has there own definition of words was a major realization for me. Sense then I have been monitoring and breaking down my own interpretations of language

Awesome. Thank you. Will check out the book definitely. You would probably enjoy the TED talks. Interesting stuff,
You wouldn't care to define truth would you? :) I'm just mean- but still. Curious because of the belief response.
I like the Indiana Jones bit on that "archeology is about FACT, if it's truth you're after Dr.___'s philosophy class is down the hall". Of course, knowing enough about archeology, I'm inclined to dispute that... but there you go. Well maybe it is- science is about searching for fact, philosophy about searching for truth?
Yeah, I've been meaning to check out the TED talks -- I watched a few excerpts. The Beyond Belief 2006 talks are great too. I especially like much of what Neil deGrasse Tyson has to say, or at least I like how he says it.
Truth to me is synonymous with reality and fact. The religious/spiritual use of the truth, as something "grander" than our world, I see as an abuse of the word. I think those people just need their eyes opened to how grand this universe actually is -- in Carl Saganish fashion.
Of course, the problem here is that most people prefer their "grand" truths to not make them feel so small and insignificant. They like to feel that there is some sort of master meta-narrative and that they and their fellow humans somehow has an important role to play in it.
Will check them out. WIth TED- check out the bottom one (Gapminder) and the happiness/choice ones. I'm partial to the med/health ones myself, and the tech as another kingdom of life thing... (by one of the Long Now lectures guys- another great thing to check out

Are you asking the question of what things states, conditions, etc… we think the word is taken to represent by some quantity of language users; the question of what, as distinct from some measure of definition for all other words that word should properly represent; some other question, or are you just topo-mapping the local landscape?
Rational: Consistent with or based on the use of reason.
I often think that this is more of an ideal than anything else. I tend to deny Freud's model of the mind, which posits that the human mind is mostly rational with pockets of irrationality, in favor of Lacan's view which inverts Freud's model.
