Charming place, this. Cozy.

[Jim isn't visible on camera, but the hospital is. Sterile floors, hospital cafeteria tables, and one very neatly manicured hand rolling an apple between fingers. Pausing. Rolling it back the other way.]

All fiction is implicitly metafictional. Did you know?

[He makes a sound like a hum and sets the apple down, getting to ( Read more... )

Book store? BORING. I've got a mate who could probably help you though.

Do you really? Give me a number. Maybe I'll give him a call.

I have been here 37 minutes so... Anything you like, if your source actually delivers.

The college library is pretty good. I've spent some time there myself doing research.

How's the fiction section?

Surprisingly scarce. There's some books by local authors, I think, but it's a little harder to try and find things based on the places we all come from.

Have you thought about asking residents about your friends? There's a chance someone might have heard of them.

I have, actually. But people are such unreliable sources. I prefer to do my own research.

I suppose that is one way to approach the issue.

Not everyone is so quick to take your line of thought.

Really? How surprising. I imagine everyone would want to read their own stories. I know I would.

I did know! Do know.

Hello, I'm the Doctor.

As for the best bookstore in town, honestly, they're all a bit rubbish. The one on the college campus is probably the best, and that's just because they need something for the English majors?

Do you know what titles you'd be looking for?

Or -- I'm sorry -- have you considered the possibility, however distressing, that you might be from television?

Television? Even more interesting. I will have to take a look at their collection of movies and series as well.

Titles are a bit more of a challenge. I think I might just peruse the selection.

You won't find the story you came from. None of us have, and believe me, we've all looked. Talking to people from other worlds seems to be the only way to find out what your story was. They don't even have Harry Potter on the shelves here!

How disappointing. Well. It was worth a try.

Have you met many people familiar with your story?

All lines of thought pertaining to what works of fiction that we supposedly came from are moot.

Yes. I had come to that conclusion earlier, but I like to make certain before I make assumptions.
