The good news: My car appears to be all fixed up.. the starting problem turned out to be a bad wire to the starter (so oldsmobile_mike was right, once again, and the creature that sold me the car was UTTERLY DEAD WRONG once again).. went to Jiffy Lube and had a radiator and engine flush, total price including wire replacement: $161.
