Stick around, nostalgia won't let you down.

You know, I have a shitload of stuff to say about the current FINA swim meet going on in Melbourne, but since I think there's only one person reading this journal who still even vaguely follows swimming (Hi, alhazred!) and because I hate jinxing things, I'm going to wait until the championships are over to do the big post. But still, I feel like I should ( Read more... )

...G-gay cowboy book review...

That wouldn't happen to be "Cowboys: Gay Erotic Tales," would it? Because I firmly believe all copies of that book should be burned in the fires of hell.
M-my eyes, they said, "Cssszzt." Just like that.

It is totally "Cowboys: Gay Erotic Tales." I bought it and I am going to tell the whole damned world about it. I found it that hilariously bad.

I am going to post a full review. Because I am a masochist.

And a part of me dies just a bit.

...And I know not-so-deep in my heart that I will read this full review. Because you are not alone in your masochism. I'm just glad that I got away with flipping through the book and recoiling in horror and shutting the damn thing. That is the key, dear Thorne! SHUTTING THE EVIL BOOK OF GAY COWBOYS!

I can't help it.

Shutting the book doesn't help. It's just, I almost forget how bad it is until I look at the cover and see that bare cowboy ass and remember, "Yeah, it's totally that bad."

Well, it did give me a good laugh, and it was only, like, ten bucks. It was really more of a five dollar laugh at best, but I'm going to pass the book on and that is enough to warm to cockles of my black heart.

HAHAHA swimming. In honor of the 2004 Olympics and how I miss them, I found a way to write about NBA players in Athens. It's not hard. THEY WERE THERE, MAN. Anyway. Do you have the pic of Ryan Lochte sporting his diamond studded grillz on the medal platform?

In case not, just for you:

Dude, one of the hottest pieces of swimming RPF I ever read was a popslash/swimming Athens crossover. If you want to write about NBA players in Athens, you should do it.

I laughed so hard at that grill picture. Poor Ryan, he's usually so overshadowed. But poor Aaron, because Ryan knocked him off his throne! Then again, Aaron has not been seen lately in a pink floral speedo, so you take what you can get.

I made a resolution that since Beijing is up in one year, I'm actually going to try and finish all the swim RPF's I ever started before the Olympics, since they'll eventually get Jossed. I had been going to let them malinger because I thought there'd be no interest, but hell, why not.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT! My DVR is full of swimming that I have been too exhausted to watch. Well, except for this one time that my DVR fucked up and recorded poker. Poker. I fail to see how poker qualifies as a sport, let alone a sport that should be aired on television constantly. Fucking poker.

At any rate, I keep up like it's a fucking religion and I'm the Pope of swimming or something.

I admit, I deliberately made that comment to see if it would draw anyone out. As I said one comment up, I've been wondering whether it'd be worth it to finish the WsIP I have on my hard drive or if there'd be no interest, so-- *shrug*

Apparently Michael is totally into poker, according to an interview. I am curious to see what direction this will go in; like, if someone will run with it in the same direction of the alcohol and DUI, or if it leads to making foolhardy bets with other swimmers/players, which may or may not pay off in sexual hijinks. Or strip poker, I'm not really picky.

Well, dude, I'm glad you still like it (and man, the Pope of Swimming is an awesome mental image) but you should say something so I don't feel like a doofus continuing to gush about swimming. then, so I don't assume I'm just

hey, this is kind of a random comment, i know we don't talk anymore... but i recently heard this song called 'relax, take it easy' by a singer called mika and i thought of you, because the song has a very scissor sisters-y kind of sound and i associate the scissor sisters with you.

kind of random, but yeah. i hope you're doing good lately. :)

(i tried to comment on your lj but that didn't work and i saw your comment on this post... apologies to thorne_scratch for the random comment :/)

I will never forgive either of you.

Nah. I'm just back from Easter Mass, so I'm forgiving people all over the place.

I've always been fond of swimming because it was one of the few sports I did do, so I know the ins and outs of it, more or less. Plus, you know, lots of great physiques to admire.

I'm sad too about the lack of coverage of Worlds... well, I'm hoping there'll be downloadable stuff on the fansites. Glad someone will be liking the swimming!

Elementary and high school, mostly. At my college, our gym was being renovated all four years I was there; our swim team had to either practice in the bay or at the naval base and I was just not up for that.

They really do!
