People's reactions to the financial crisis

Some people here are pretty convinced that the situation Iceland finds itself in right now is the fault of the sitting government, specially the Independence Party. Those people have had marches and stuff like that. And it seems that they're convinced that everything will be better if there is an election and there will be a new government. Is anything immediately drastic happening there? Continentals buying up real estate and turning widows and orphans out in the streets?

I'd like jelly-filled, please.

Does the fact that the stock market index dropped from 3500 points to about 600 count as drastic, and that there's almost no trading being done there now?

The problem is that foreigners aren't bringing money into the economy here since it's highly unstable and they have no idea what might happen to their money.

I mean day to day stuff - as far as my day to day activities go, it's been an improvement because I'm a traveling repairman and gasoline has dropped to half and many companies are even more firmly putting off buying new and repairing or upgrading their current gear.

I was sort of hoping that I'd find out your kroner was so low against the dollar I could afford to live there in some leisure while finishing my education.

Oh, that sort of stuff. The ISK is just about worthless, the exchange rate is now about 120 ISK to the dollar, it used to be about 70-80 ISK to the dollar. So stuff will be considerably cheaper here for you than it used to be.

As for the food situation, I'm not so sure. The prices seem to be staying the same-ish for now, but you never know what will happen.

Well, given that Iceland is now apparently a terrorist nation, they're probably just trying to distance themselves from the target zones in advance of the Leaders of the Free World moving from freezing assets to air strikes.

I'll take maple-glazed, thank you :-)

Apparently, according to the Anti-terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001, they can do this even though they targets aren't actually terrorists, but merely someone who they believe is endangering life or property of someone or some organization that's British.
