You asked for my advice in my blog, and I'm finally getting around to it here. ;)
To make things easier for people that are having to move for work, a lot of real estate brokerages have relocation services. The big national companies (Coldwell Banker, Prudential, Re/Max, Century 21, etc.) would be a good place to start, especially if they have offices in both your city and here in Austin.
I'd recommend finding a brokerage locally that you trust, and finding out what they offer in terms of relocation. Some companies will even have package deals with moving companies that would get you a discount on your moving expenses, which would be a huge plus. And by working through relocation, you'd be able to find a house close to where you're going to work, and which will fit your needs, and your budget.
Congrats, BTW, and welcome to Austin! I think you'll like it here. :)
