I couldn't agree with you more. You've expressed many of my discomforts with online culture more succintly than I ever could.

I dont think its very fair of you to write things like ''you've got a messsed up outlook on life nad self iamge, that's what you've got
''. She wasnt being nasty to you, and can be a part of any group she wants its not for you to judge. Some people find great comfort & support within those groups and sometimes its the only place they can get it.

So someone comes up to you on the street randomly and your not allowed or even obliged to respond in a negative fashion if that approach and consequent conversation is non-sequiter, random and potentially offensive?

Sure it's a tough comment, but politeness was out the door in the 2nd line of that persons conversation.

Tom, I hope you realise the irony in your little talk about internet trolls, as in the chat incident that began this post, YOU were in fact the Internet troll.

There was a Boston Legal episode about pro-eating disorder groups... I figured they got the source material from some rare crackpot source and amped it up for TV's sake.

Sadly, truth is stranger than the fiction - especially if Bill Shatner is involved!!!

Law & Order too (I wonder who did ti first: L&O or BL?)
I figure the google ranking for what were presumably once rare as hen's teeth websites subsequently went up as a mazillion people subsequently hopped online to check that they really did exist.
