Sheesh. No. I'm not a serious Marvel fan, but some of you readers are. No. This is straight against headcanon. No, NO, NO, HELL NO!

I can understand why. People want to believe that no matter how awful the world gets, how much it seems like in reality the bad guys are winning, that there is a still a pure and unsullied ideal to look up to and a fantasy to escape into.

This pretty much just shits all over that. It is, quite literally, a betrayal of the American Dream, turning it into a nightmare. It is taking something that belongs to ordinary people, and twisting it into a tool of oppression and hatred by an elitist group. Both in fiction and reality.

I'm no fan, and I haven't read comics in ages... but yeah, I can see why it would upset people and might well provoke a massive backlash that will require some fancy ret-conning later on.

I'm not, like, a big fan or anything; I mostly know Captain America from the movie.

But no. Saddle up the nopetopus and ride away on it. Must be some alternate universe in which Captain America was temporarily replaced by a doppelgänger of some sort.

My response is just a kinda, "pft, yeah, sure guys, you won't retcon this in a few years tops. I TOTALLY believe you."
