Once-ler had several reasons for wanting to go to his mother's last.  He of course wanted to give Norma time with her own mother, and do something special for Norma herself---but he also wanted lessen the chances of running into Epps.  He figured if the others wanted to play family, they could do so at brunch

Out came the worst possible person out of the manor's kitchen. "Hello boy." He's aware of the hatred Once feels and justifiably so. Being a Guardian had weathered on the man, as a white streak took hold in the much shorter hair.

Once chose to play deaf, focusing on his plate instead. The holiday was keeping him in line.

The man nodded and sat on the table for a moment, staring at his own plate, as Isabella brought in the meal. "Well now, ain't y'all Debbie Downers like this!" Unlike Norma, she was showing plenty more than her.

"Sorry, Mom--and, geeze, let me get that--" He was up in a second, wondering if the staff had wisely chosen to abscond early tonight.

He really couldn't blame them.
