I honestly don't care whether it's canon or not. I had fun.
I hope the past tense in that last sentence doesn't mean you're done with the ship - your S/R stories are exquisite! I'm going through all of my old favorites and your's are next!
Dear, for some reason, when I woke up sunday and went to check my f-list, there were 15 posts in a row in RxS. Actually, lately it's been more active than I ever remember. And many of the poster are from former shippers who returned. ^_^
Cool. I defriended most of my comms, so I've been missing things. I'm done with the ship, though. I mean, I still ship them, but I'm not interested in writing about them anymore. Just nothing to say.
When there is a canon relationship, I don't like to see it discarded - if Sirius and Lily were getting it on while she was married to James, I want to know what's going on! There's no overlap between Sirius/Remus and Remus/Tonks at all, so both relationships are entirely compatible, plausible and fun.
Oh, sure. And actually, her treatment by fans has made me rather protective of Tonks, to the point where I really wanted her and Remus to be happy together and I'm kind of bummed that they died. Though I'm more bummed for her, to be honest.
I became interested in fandom when I was convinced that R/S subtext was written deliberately by Rowlings. I was shaken a bit by the end of HBP and much of DH, but it seems to me that Remus's feelings about Tonks were purposefully left ambiguous.
Then, the very last time we see Remus, she throws Remus and Sirius at us again. Remus is younger, finally less shabby, and happy. We've never seen him happy for one minute with Tonks.
So, tell me how wrong I am. What's the party line on why Remus showed up in the end? Have at me!

He was happy when Teddy was born. Does that count?

Remus showed up in the end because he was important to Harry. He was a mentor and I think his death weighed heavily on Harry because of their exchange in Grimmauld Place and the fact that he left behind an infant son.
