spoilers through Chapter Sixteen

You've no idea how badly I want to read your spoilers! But I'm not going to. I haven't flipped to the end. I don't even know how many pages are left. *whistles* I feel less pathetic now that I know my co-worker is in the same place. We can have our own Potterchat ( Read more... )

I have to go back to re-read that part, but I got the impression that Dean was captured - so maybe Seamus was let alone, or just didn't happen to be with Dean at that moment. There are times when Harry isn't with R/Hr, after all.

I felt that Ron was in-character, honestly - look how he behaved in GoF. I love Ron, and you do need to keep reading, but I view him to be the most "human" of the three, which means he's not as good at holding off his insecurities. He never has been. Poor boy.

I agree about the cemetary scene. :(

Captured by whom? He was with Dirk and Ted. I know the Trio sometimes separates. I just thought Seamus might have followed his friend into hiding, though perhaps he feels he could do better work staying at Hogwarts.

I remember how Ron behaved in GoF. But he was 14 then. He's 17 now. I know he's been volatile all along, but I wish we could have seen more of Hermione and Harry reacting poorly to the Horcrux. Particularly Hermione. :P

Dean might have insisted that Seamus didn't. Or Seamus may have had some serious pressure from home- his mother put a lot of pressure on him in OotP, too. I would have liked it, too, but I still think they're as close as Harry and Ron :)

That's true.

*whimper* Come on, Ron. Come through!

Re: Ron being OTT. Bear in mind that the horcrux is having its effect, too--and seemingly more on Ron than either of the other two.

Yeah. It just seems unbalanced, since Hermione and Harry seem to be bearing up well enough.

I thought that was slightly true of Ron, too, but it is true that a) he's had a history of being insecure, though he usually gets over it (about money, during GOF) and b) the Horcrux is having its One Ring affect on him.

Plus, JKR glides over it a bit when they are talking about food, and how Ron, who is used to three meals a day, is having the hardest time with that. I mention that here because I think the affect of the hiding and the fear and the frustration is more systemic for Ron than just food. Ron is the one of them who is from a very secure home, where he's used to being surrounded by people (even before Hogwarts), with a mum who takes excellent care of him; they're poor, but they've been secure in each other and basic needs. Tom Riddle never knew such a life, or love, and Harry's only touched it through the Weasleys since his parents died, so I can see how Ron would have a much harder time with that piece of soul than Harry. Hermione, I think, is fairly cool under pressure (I mean, the woman packed a TENT), and while she ( ... )

Well, I was thrown by the fact that he insisted they respect Voldemort's name. That plus the fact that he'd been grabbed by Yaxley made me think some curse had been put on him.

*tremble*

Don't do that! I have a whole hour before I can read my book again.

*is dying*

On, Ron. Please be okay, buddy.

I found that part of the book frustrating as I was reading it. I think I may have been identifying with the trio a bit too much. It was a very frustrating time for all of them!

I cried when Ron left. Literally. I was tired though. :-)

I think that the others do show the effects of wearing the Horcrux. It is, IMO, IC for Ron to be more transparent with his frustrations and insecurities than Harry, who becomes more paranoid and turns inward in very unhelpful ways during this time or Hermione who withdraws into books and nags a bit more than usual. I do think each of them is very much distracted and this is part of why they seem so stuck in that part. Ron acts -- as I think is always more quick to do. Either way it is a very depressing section!

That is my opinion anyway!

I guess in a way we all spoiled you by insisting Ron was IC, huh? Sorry!

No biggie. By the time I read most of your comments, Ron had redeemed himself. :)
