See, I love season 6, even with the big negative of my annoyance with Willow's storyline, because it's depressing and hard, but I kinda feel like they do all rise above, it's just hard. I totally get what you're saying, but it's funny how what made you like it less is what makes me like it more. Different strokes! :)
And yeah, Buffy and Dawn! Season 6 really made me love Dawn.
Sometimes I love Dawn more for the role she plays than her actual characterization. I mean, I love the idea that this superheroine has to constantly contend with a bratty kid sister. But then Dawn saves Buffy in the second episode, and sits with Tara in "Villains" and fights beside Buffy in "Grave" and...I just love her.
I love Season 6 too, just because I feel like that's the season where you get to see Buffy really dealing with everyday realities like bills and taking care of Dawn and it's hard even when you're a superhero. :) But yeah, I think most people don't love it.
But she deals with reality (well, teenage reality) in the first three seasons. I guess I miss the lighter tone. But - from what I hear - S7 isn't quite so grim.
In Willow's case I can forgive the black hair thing? Because I agree with you re: the evils of orange, but... well, Willow's hair already is orange. So I forgive them that. :D
