Xander had Willow.
That's how he turned out okay.

I never noticed that difference between Xander and the fake Xander.

I don't remember that about the Institution Ep (which I do love the conceit of). But yeah. Season six has those things happening.

I meant throughout the series - well, starting in the middle of S4 and continuing through S6.

"Hell's Bells" is sad, almost in a pathetic way.

It feeds into a real fear that we'll become our parents, if our parents weren't good. (Like Xander's). So I can see that he had that fear within, that he didn't want Anya and him to become like his dad and mom.

But it was very contrived the way they did it.

Excellent question about his parents and his wonderful turn out. I want to say the Scoobies basically saved him, and mostly Willow.

I can totally understand Xander's fear (I'm constantly afraid I'll turn into either of my parents) but I really, really wanted to see him rise above.

*sigh*

You're right, of course: Willow saved him.
