Oh, Oh I --!
I adore Spock's point of view. It kind of hurts, taut is a good word. And McCoy's frustration and blindness.
And the rhetorical question: their ageing and growing and learning about each other.

They're both kind of blind. *g* Thank you! I'm so glad Spock worked for you. He's a hard one to pin down. Every time I started to write "He felt as if..." I had to stop and think, No, he didn't feel as if anything!

That's the bit I missed out of saying I really like: McCoy getting and being able to tell Spock how he felt. This is something Spock needs. The torn between two worlds/modes of thinking was very well brought out/described.

Thanks! :) I worried a little that Spock was making all the concessions, but maybe he needs to. I mean, he does have this human side. He can indulge it a bit while he's with McCoy, whom I imagine will be less judgmental when he doesn't think Spock is rejecting what's really part of his nature.

McCoy clasped his hands behind his back and swayed back and forth on the balls of his heels. "Oh," he said innocently, "I have." He didn't dare look at Spock then. He had to imagine his rolled eyes.

Ha, I can just see him doing this, and it made me laugh. The whole thing is very satisfying and so sweet in a totally epic way. Good job!

Eeee, thank you!! :)

I'm so glad that characterizations worked for you. This is the first time I've written from Spock's POV, and damn he's hard to pin down.

*g* I'd actually intended to continue the story through McCoy's death (at some spectacularly advanced age) and have Spock deal with it. But apparently I love the good doctor too much for that.

Twenty-four years is a long time to carry a torch. Then again, they complement each other so darn well. (I'm watching TOS for the first time, and I've been so struck by the interplay between them. I thought I'd be more into Kirk/Spock, but no, it's Spock/McCoy that's captured my heart.)

Anyway. Thank you so very much! :)

Seriously! I mean, how can you say "Spock felt as if..." when he's not supposed to feel??? O_o

I think the only real reason Spock/Kirk never did it for me is Bones isn't involved. I grew up with the movies (but somehow never saw the episodes until this summer) and I always had a thing for Bones. (Then Reboot came out and made him not only awesome but sexy! Eee, Karl!) So, yeah. If McCoy's not there, basically, I'm not there.

Anyway. Thank you! I don't know if I can bring myself to do it, and make Spock confront his feelings (or whatever) finally, but... Maybe. I appreciate the vote of confidence! :)

What a wonderful story!

I was so surprised the other night. They aired the first Star Trek Next Gen. episode(which I'd somehow managed to keep missing all these years), and McCoy makes a very brief appearance at the end of the episode. He's an Admiral, 137 years old, and he talks to Data!

Thank you!

Yes, "Encounter at Farpoint." Lame episode, except for De Kelley's cameo. *g* That started the tradition of someone from the previous series sort of giving the go ahead to the next series cast. (Picard was in the pilot episode of DS9, and Quark was in the pilot of Voyager.)
