What better thing to get in the mail than a delivery of books? After seeing my review of her books, the author very kindly offered to send me autographed copies of them. I love them! Now I just need to find the perfect place to display them

I was just discussing with a few friends online if the art of the "fan letter" has gone away - like, actually sitting down and writing fan mail. Thoughts?
Um, and I totally agree with smudging your name out. There is a reason I deleted my Facebook when they DEMANDED I use my real name. Nope nope nope. I mean, it's not that hard to figure out but at the same time, it's safer to not throw it around out there!

I don't write anywhere near as many emails to authors as I'd like. Even though I wouldn't contact them unless it was over positive things, I still feel like it might bother them, like they might have to spend their valuable writing time to reply to me. In this case, she had something like "I love getting email from fans!" on her Contact Me page, so I took her at face value. :)
With the exception of one, no email I've sent to an author has resulted in something negative. Usually I either get no reply or (more common) a quick little email in reply. The one exception was from that author who wrote that story about the father who had to kill his son, and didn't want him to suffer while he killed him, so held his head under water until he died. I still laugh over how off that logic was... Anyway, that author was the only one whose response was snippy.
I'm glad I'm not alone! So many people online have no issues with using their full real names, but it still makes me skittish.

I'm going to have to find your review and see if I can use it to write a booktalk since I probably won't have time to read it before May. :)
Did you ever hand write any letters to celebrities?
