You're no longer my BFF, NPR.

I love NPR (National Public Radio, like PBS for the radio). It's "smart people news" -- they'll spend as much time on a news story as it needs, not try to pigeonhole it into a 20 second window like other news stations/shows do. My alarm radio is set to NPR. I listen to it on the drive to and from work ( Read more... )

I'm right there with you. I decided I wanted to know what was going on so I signed up for the NPR breaking news alerts, FiveThirtyEight's email and the ACLU email list. So now at least three times a day I'm sent into a politically induced depression because WTF IS GOING ON OMG ( ... )

RFA -- even safe for use on TV! But seriously, calling them something other than white supremacist/Neo-Nazi is just an outright lie.

I'm not sure about the riots either. I suppose it's just a young, angry thing... not that I can blame them at all. If that guy came to speak at my workplace, I'd sure want to yell as well.

But seriously, of all places in the entire world to go, Neo-Nazi wants to go to UC Berkeley?! I guess he'd want to go to Israel next...

I hate to say it, but I agree with your final paragraph. We need something that makes us come together as humans, no more of this race/sex/gender crap.

As far as I can tell the rioters and the student protesters were two different entities objecting the same thing. There was a call to disrupt the talk by left/antifa groups and they are different than the Berkeley students protesting. There's another call tonight to disrupt a different talk in new york.

'Provocateur' is my current least favourite word. The news yesterday kept using it to describe Milo. Fuck that shit.

Ah! That would make sense.

And yes... While it's not incorrect, it's far from the most accurate description of him...

Ha! That's a good way to turn it into something useful.

I'm similar, but in a different way: I used to hate the local (state-level) news, now I love it because there's less chance of something Trump-related in it.

I have a radio in every room of the house, they are all set to my local NPR affiliate. I turn it off all the time now, it is either music or podcasts. I don't need to sigh that much.

Yeeeep. Luckily this morning has been good, so I've been able to do my usual Saturday morning listening. I expect Wait Wait Don't Tell Me will have political stuff, but at least that will be in a way I can laugh over it.
